Well, being a queer hip-hop head, I must confess to being very much out of the loop as far as who's out there for queer MCs and djs. Most of the ones I know are local to vancity.
So....who should I know? Who do you reccomend?

Re: who should I know?
Fri, September 16, 2005 - 1:02 PMI feel ya on that. I'm kinda in the same boat, but I'd recommend just searching for it yourself and finding artists that are to your taste. I don't want to boast any one artists because the vast majority of them think they are too good to chat with us. Guess they want to be untouchable like the mainstream artists.
Here's a good link though.

i definitely want to hear about the scene in Vancouver. Was up in TO early in the month to promote this queer hip hop doc and there was lots of interest. holla about VC--you should get in touch with Juba Kalamaka from DeepDickCollective about performing at Peace Out in San Fran...we got one in NYC, but the next one is not until fall 2006. That invite is open to all. -

Yeah, there's a small but very family-like scene of queer MCs here. We tend to collaborate and do lots of shows together. I just got up on a cypher at "Lick" - came out to support my girl Brigee K, ended up on the mic for a bit and got PAID for it. She just shot me 20 bucks but still...I thought that was so sweet. I wasn't on the bill or anything.
I have to confess I only know one Gay male MC here, but it seems almost every female dj in the city is queer. Either that or it's my wishful thinking...lol
What was the scene like in toronto for you? I have a good friend shankhini, was out there doing the do, toured a bit with a kat who just moved to new york named God-dess.
Shankhini is takin a bit of a time out but she was totally loving toronto.
What is the queer hip-hop doc you were talking about? Also how would I best get in touch with Juba kalamaka? I just googled DeepDickCollective and it doesn't look like there is an official web site, unless I totally spaced and missed it.

Wed, September 28, 2005 - 6:03 PMyeah i know god-des very well and have spent a lot of time with her and She (formerly Tina G). they were part of the posse of folks up in TO performing and being "famous"--no one knew or cared who we were. it was hot and i wish i would have had more contacts before going up there, but i am hoping to make it happen at a later date.
do you have a website? would love to hear your stuff.
this is my group's website and we are mixing our full-length right now--

well next time you go up, maybe I can help you - thru Shankhini. I'm sure she must have some kinda hook up in TO. My friend Kyprios was living there too for a while. He's signed with Sony, so for sure he must know somebody. Good people too.
I'll check out your website, unfortunately I don't have a website myself. I really gotta get on that. It's on my "big to-do list"...LOL
My stuff is kinda oldschool, some spoken word, concious, on the light jazz funk side of things. at least I think it is...I never know how to describe it.
too bad we cant upload songs on here... -
